Three RDP Grants Open To Applications

Three new funding opportunities of interest to horticulture businesses in Wales have been launched.

Pile of coins (500px * 373px)Available through Welsh Government Rural Communities, the new round of the Rural Development Programme for 2014-2020, the schemes aim to improve competitiveness in the agriculture and forestry sectors while also enhancing rural environments across Wales.

Sustainable Production Grant

Through this fund, businesses (including start-ups) involved in any form of primary agricultural production can apply for support to make capital improvements such as new machinery, equipment, buildings, or software, which will lead to an increase in on-farm performance and efficiency.

Grants ranging from £16,000 to £400,000 are available to cover up to 40% of the total project cost. The deadline for submitting an initial application is 30 September.

Food Business Investment Scheme

This programme offers capital grants to help add value to primary agricultural products. Open to applications from businesses involved in either primary production or processing, funding can be spent on land, buildings, machinery, and equipment.

Grants ranging from £2,400 to £5,000 are expected to be available, with SMEs able to claim up to 40% of total eligible project costs and larger enterprises entitled to receive 20%. Again, the expression of interest deadline is 30 September.

Rural Community Development Fund

Finally, this scheme is aimed at improving basic services in rural areas and can support, for example, small-scale infrastructure projects or the expansion of local services and amenities.
